Fellow Audi Club of Florida members and fellow Audi enthusiasts,

The 60th running of the 24Hours of Le Mans is fast approaching, and Audi Sport Team Joest has big plans: two evolutions of last year’s winning R18 are being entered. Two R18 E-Tron Hybrids and two R Ultras will face off against Toyota’s TS030 Hybrid racers, not to mention seven other LMP1 challengers fielded by strong teams like Rebellion Racing and Pescarolo. They will share the track with 43 other cars entered in lesser classes, something that always leads to thrilling racing through traffic.

We have two Audi dealerships who will be hosting Le Mans events.

Audi Tampa Le Mans Drop the Flag

Audi Tampa, the newest facility of the Reeves auto group along with the Gulf Coast Region of the ACFL will be holding a Le Mans Drop the Flag on June 16, 2012 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM. The event will include catered Breakfast and additional food and refreshments through out the day,  Participants will be able to watch Saturday's Le Mans activities  on Speed TV and when they go off air for NASCAR 1:00-2:30, TV Audi.de including live cockpit shot and commentary.

Additional activities will include New Dealership Tours, Jim Norman Rolex Series APR race driver Q & A and commentary, and an Audi marketing and history discussion by Joe Pariseau who is an AoA Academy Instructor. There will be copies of the latest “quattro quarterly” available to all attendees. An Audi Concourse d’Elegance, Judges Frank and Peter who drive two of the cleanest Audis around will help determine whose Audi is best-detailed (prize a can of wax). A raffle for two R8 sport cars RC models, (sorry about that) a Sportsline Teddy bear and some historic ACFL signage for garage or man cave decoration. There should be something for the entire family so drop by, check out the dealership and of course the Audis as they race into the night.

In addition, for the kids and those who are kids at heart, plans are in the works to have two R8 driving simulators. Choose you track and see if you are a winner.

All members of the ACNA who live in Florida will receive an E-Invite for the Tampa event. In addition, if you receive this newsletter you will also receive an E-Invite. Please, only RSVP to the address on the invite.

Melbourne Audi Le Mans Event

For those on the East coast, the Spacecoast Region of the Porsche Club of America, in concert with Audi Melbourne, is extending an invitation to ACNA members to join them Saturday, June 16 at 8:30AM for breakfast and viewing of the start of the endurance classic. Join the PCA members who will be cheering on their favorite marque’s 911RSRs and see how Toyota stacks up against defending champion Audi. It is going to be an epic race. Viewing of the race at the dealership will be available until 7:00 PM. Speed Channel is televising the majority of the race this year, so you will be able to enjoy the rest of the race at home (if you have cable/satellite, of course). Please RSVP to dedwards@mbmelbourne.com . The dealership is located at 509 East NASA Boulevard, Melbourne.

Gulf Coast Region

June

Attached is a broadside for the upcoming cars and coffee at Audi Tampa on Saturday June 2. I know it is a holiday weekend but you may just want to take a break, get away for a couple hours, and enjoy just looking at cars. I have yet to hear from Suncoast as to whether they will also be holding their cars and coffee on that date.

July

Nothing on the books yet but some folks are doing a little recon for perhaps a fun run and lunch possibly in August.

West Palm Beach Region

June/July

Touch base with David to see if the boys from Hooked on Driving have something planned. There is also Daytona, which seems to be on the books for December. David may have information regarding that should HoD be participating this year.david.loppert@earthlink.net

Space Coast Region

IIHS Safety Reports

Have you ever wondered how your Audi stacks up in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports, well here is the link http://www.iihs.org/.

What is fascinating is that one brand that seems to be known for safe vehicles according to many motorcar journalists, fairs just the same as the new Audis.

Truth in 24 II Every Second Counts

Here is an interesting article on the new movie Truth in 24 II, http://www.fourtitude.com/news/publish/Features/article_7728.shtml. Some may remember that a few years back we had a block party on St Pete Beach with a showing of the original "Truth in 24.” No promises yet, but the club is presently working with one of the Gulf Coast dealerships in the hopes of doing this again with the sequel.
