Audi Club of Florida Newsletter for July, 2015

We kicked off the 24 heures du Mans this year with viewing parties at Audi Tampa/Reeves Motorsports and Audi South Orlando. There was good company to watch the earlier hours of the race along with food and give-aways laid on by our hosts. Porsche's #19 had the kind of race we've started to take granted from Audi and "Mr. Le Mans." Congratulations Porsche. Audi is sure to be back in it to win it next year, and we'll be back to cheer them on.

You can browse a gallery of the Reeves Motorsports event here.

Lunch at the Alpine Steakhouse, Sarasota and St. Pete/Tampa drive-in

On Saturday July 18, join the Gulf Coast Region of the ACFL for our second German luncheon of the year, this time in Sarasota at Karl Ehmer’s Alpine Steak house located at 4520 S Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, FL. Lunch will start at 11:30. It is important that you RSVP with Julie and Mike Clarke, onwego3@gmail.com, by July 15th in order that a correct head count can be provided to restaurant.

For those who will be coming from the St Pete/Tampa area and would like to caravan to the restaurant, we will meet on the west side of the Walmart parking lot, located at 3501 34th St S. Departure from that location will be no later than 10:00 AM for the short drive over the bridge, then a photo op at the rest area just south of the bridge. We will then proceed on to Sarasota and the restaurant. To join the drive, please RSVP withbob@audiclubfl.org. The customary participant’s signing of waivers, required by the ACNA for insurance coverage will be at the start of the drive.

In the past we have held two luncheons at Karl Ehmer’s and they were well attended. As a point of interest, one of our former members of the Board of Directors, Michael Brady, was the architect who designed the Alpine themed establishment, many years ago. Once again, we look forward to having you join us for a little Gemütlichkeit.

Cheers and Safe Motoring

The Next A4 - What We Know

Quattroworld gives us a sneak peek at the future "B9" A4: "The engine and gearbox options for North American are unknown to us at this point. We expect Audi to launch an all-new Nine-speed S-tronic. However, based on what we’ve heard, Audi of America is still a bit gun-shy about using the S-tronic gearbox across the board. The majority of American buyers still prefer the smoother torque-converted automatic. So the tiptronic option may live on for some configurations."

"The all-new 190 hp 2.0 TFSI engine makes perfect sense for the North American market. It’s a good balance of performance and fuel economy with the possibility of up to 47 mpg. It would also be the perfect engine to pair with an e-tron hybrid system. However, we think the 252 hp 2.0 TFSI from the A6/A7 will find it’s way into the B9 A4."

Audiworld: Audi 2.5 TFSI voted “International Engine of the Year” for sixth time

This is the five cylinder engine in the TT RS and the old RS3. The headline says it all.

Mission to the moon: AUDI AG supports the German Team at Google Lunar XPRIZE

"Cannes/Ingolstadt, June 25, 2015 - Audi is taking off for the moon - along with the Part-Time Scientists. Nearly 45 years after NASA's Apollo 17 completed the last manned mission to the moon, the cooperating partners have selected the old landing site of Apollo 17 as the new target.

"A group of German engineers in the Part-Time Scientists team is working within the Google Lunar XPRIZE competition to transport an unmanned rover to the moon. Audi is supporting the Part-Time Scientists with its know-how in several fields of technology - from quattro all-wheel drive and lightweight construction to electric mobility and piloted driving."
