A6/S6 Roof Racks for sale (2005-2011)

I recently upgraded my 2007 A6 to a 2014 3.0.  I have a factory set of roof racks I used just a few time to carry my kayak.  They are like new and attach solidly to the roof using out-of-sight holes…Continue

Audi Club of Florida Newsletter for October

Fellow ACFL, ACNA and Audi Enthusiasts

There is much going on as we approach the final quarter of this drive around the sun. Between Cars and Coffee in Orlando and Tampa, an Audi of America and dealership Oktoberfest (Food, Beer and Music) in Tampa and an October drive originating at Orlando and finishing at the Yalaha bakery. In addition active ACFL/ACNA members will be choosing Board of Director members. If you are an active member and would like to serve on the board, please send a note tobob@audiclubfl.org and I will send you the announcement.

Walter Moore will be stepping down as newsletter editor after this year. Clearly his hard work on improving the feel and look of the newsletter and transferring its dissemination to Benchmark has been a great improvement over the old Microsoft outlook e-mail format. To continue to generate the newsletter we are asking that interested parties contact either Walter or me. The newsletters along with our website are critical venues for getting the word out regarding club activities. Ironically prior to the 2006/7 initiation of the Microsoft email announcement, word of activities was posted in one of the Audi regional chat rooms. Things have clearly improved. On behalf of the ACFL and the Board of Directors we thank Walter for his service as editor of the newsletter and look forward to his continued help in the field of tech support.

Finally, we will be wrapping up the year with our annual “Toys for Tots” meet in December at Reeves, a possible November/December meet to celebrate the newly renovated Audi Point at the Crown Audi location in Clearwater and a luncheon or supper at the just opened Hofbrauhaus in St Pete. Yes, the famous Hofbrauhaus in Munich has come stateside with venues in Las Vegas, Chicago and now downtown St Pete.

So please consider stepping up your involvement with the club with service to the newsletter and the Board of Directors. For the club to continue and grow it requires the assistance and involvement of more than just a few folks.

Cheers and Safe Driving

Audi Motorsport Experience at the Circuit of the Americas
A Report from the field by member Kerry Green

The Audi Motorsports Experience (AME) held its third racing event for the year at the beautiful Circuit of The Americas track in Austin, Texas. This 3 day event was in conjunction with the World Endurance Championship and the Tudor United Sportscar Championship. Andy Sattler and his crew did another outstanding job of hosting local, National and International Audi Race Fans with first rate hospitality. The AME Suite, open on Friday and Saturday, was on the third floor just above the pits and the air conditioning in the suite was most welcome as the temperatures at the track were well into the mid 90s. The food service was outstanding and the activities were informative, exciting and a whole lot of fun. Participants could pick from; hots laps in an Audi S3, guided paddock tours, and tours around the inside curves of the track during the race. The most popular activities were the interviews in the suite with the drivers, team owners and Audi Sport officials. These “race updates” were not only interesting but very entertaining.

The action on Friday revolved around the practice and qualifying sessions for both the IMSA cars and WEC cars. One of Friday’s support races was the Continental Tire Sportscar Challenge which featured an Audi S3 as one of the entrants. After qualifying 14th in Class the S3 finished 17th in the Street Tuner class. In the WEC qualifying the Porsches were one, two followed by the two R18s with Toyota’s two cars taking 5th and 6th places on the grid. Both of the featured races for the weekend were held on Saturday. The first race, the Tudor Championship, featured no less than 3 Audi R8’s. The best of the R8s was the Paul Miller Racing entry, number 48, which started from pole position in the GTD class. After some early race difficulties the number 48 car fought back and finished in third place. The second race was the Six Hours of the World Endurance Championship, which started at 5pm and ended at 11pm. The Porsche 919 cars were the class of the field but the Audi R18s gave the Porsches a good fight. During the race the number 8 Audi R18 managed to get as high as second place but for most of the six hours the Porsches were in first and second. Late in the race one of the Porsche 919 cars suffered electrical overheating problems and this allowed the two R18s to finish in second and third place. A good result for Audi Sport but not the one, two finish we would have liked. It was another great event with Audi landing on the podium in both races. Now the Audi R8s move on to Petite Lemans in Atlanta for the Tudor Championship while the R18 e-tron Quattro cars travel to Fuji, Japan for the next World Endurance Championship race.

In addition to the racing action Audi Sport had on display the new 2016 version of the R8 LMS race car that will debut at the 24 Hours of Daytona in January. As the pictures show, this is a very aggressive looking car and a totally new design. Practically no parts from the old R8 transfer to this new car. The engine and transaxle are the same reliable units from the old car but the rest is newly designed for this version.
