For some, March means Madness, others a soothsayer’s quip to Julius Caesar, “Beware of the ides of March” and a subsequent political assassination, then there is that trite little phrase “Comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb”, unfortunately though, something really important, at least to the motoring world is missing from the above list. For 63 years now on what was once an abandoned WWII training field for Bomber Harris’s boys, cars of all makes and iterations take to the old runways and compete. With the exception of 2010, in the last sixteen years, Audis have been racing and many followers of both the brand and racing have gathered for that rite of spring known as the 12 Hours of Sebring.
2015 was to be no different and though there were no factory teams, drivers and R18 Ultra diesels, there were two R8’s and the Continental series saw a couple of S3’s having their coming out. The Rings customer racing program was present and competing. In addition, Andy Sattler and his team once again put on a great Audi motorsport experience (AME).
The Turn 1 club was in full operation and in no particular order, great viewing, air conditioned loos, hot pits and laps, plus outstanding food. For those who go to the races and wish to stuff themselves with belly bombs, (grilled sausage, peppers and onions on a roll), corn dogs etc., that track food experience was in more than abundance a mere 30 yards due west of the Audi fan zone. But in the Turn 1 Club, Andy and the team’s chefs from Bluffton SC, once again had a wide variety of excellent food, including for the first time genuine Carolina low country, fresh, hot, and crispy fried oysters. For the devout followers of that bivalve, it just does not get much better than that. Shrimp fans also had their wishes come true on Friday evening with that great Louisiana Lenten special, fried shrimp Po-Boys.
If you are an Audi fan, which must be assumed if you are reading this newsletter, a trip to Sebring and or Daytona combined with the AME is a must. Make sure you get your name on the list for information regarding next year’s events.andrew@audimotorsportexperience.com
